Gas Scooter Comparison

Each scooter is given a use rating ( Suitable to be used for) , a quality/ durability score and an expected maintenance score. Use these numbers for comparison purposes between scooter brands and models. They are not intended as an absolute rating.


hobby - a general use rating.
daily - high enough quality for daily use and or reliable transportation.
race - suitable for extreme use, generally higher maintenance/wear characteristics.
race/professional - extremely high powered, suitable for pro riders


these numbers are an indicator of quality of components and materials used, level of engineering, overall fit and finish etc. higher numbers are better.


This number is a relative rating based upon user feedback, number of calls/sales of parts, and our experience gained since 2002. These ratings can vary greatly depending on the rider.
Please note: race rated scooters are expected to have higher periodic maintenance due to expected use and higher wear and tear from that use. lower numbers are better.


*(t) foldable with tools
*(m) martin monster - from what we understand these are scooters are no longer in full production. it may be possible to order a new one still but we would recommend purchasing a scooter from a company that is actively involved in making scooters.
*(b) bladez and tanaka scooters have not been made for a number of years (4+) new scooters on the market are old production/ closeout/ or refurbished. Early models were made in taiwain and are better quality, later models were made in china. parts for bladez and tanaka scooters are becoming scarce. there is not a full parts list available any longer. this includes some easily broken and critical parts. we would not recommend purchasing one of these scooters at this time at any price.
*(g) newstar / star / g-scooter etc. - scooters under these brands are possibly being imported in very limited quantities. they are inferior product, we would not recommend one of these for purchase unless you would like a project to work on.
*(d) D-rider has extremely limited exposure in the market, they have not been able to supply us with information other than what you see on the 1/2 dozen or so webstores which are offering them. they use a fair amount of proprietary parts so replacements might be an issue down the road. We doubt this scooter is a "replacement" for Bladez scooters as claimed/implied.
